What Are the Downsides of a High-Protein Diet?
If you focus too much on protein, you may be missing out on other vital nutrients, such as fiber. Since fiber can only be found
in plant-based foods, a high-protein diet that places an excessive emphasis on animal products and includes little in the way of
fruits, vegetables, and whole grains may also be low in fiber, depending on the source of protein.
Long-term overconsumption of protein can strain your kidneys, particularly if you are at risk for renal issues.
Additionally, if you're increasing your protein intake, be sure to drink extra water. The body needs
more water to digest and flush out the byproducts of protein breakdown, which increases the risk of dehydration.
